PAULDING NORTHWEST ATLANTA AIRPORT
New Airport, Not Far From Exhibit Floor, Reaches Out at Convention
Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport (PUJ) is the newest airport in the state of Georgia. With a single 5,500-foot runway, new terminal, new fuel farm and new hangar, the airport has been open for just over a year. The FBO, Paulding Jet Center, opened just two weeks ago. It's a brand-new airport 30 miles from downtown Atlanta and ideal for business operators.
"The only catch is, we're so new people don't know we're out there," said Paulding airport director Blake Swafford. "We're here at NBAA2010 to promote the airport and let business operators know that we're another option for basing and transit in and out of Atlanta."
Paulding has exhibited at NBAA's Convention the last two years, while the airport was under construction. With the infrastructure now in place, Swafford is focused on populating the airport with businesses and planes. His team is currently negotiating with a handful of companies, including a maintenance and repair operator in South Carolina looking to relocate to Atlanta and a flight school expanding into Part 141 operations.
"Many of the companies we're talking to are here, and they're glad to see us here. If they're going to come to our airport, they want to see us promoting it."
One of the biggest selling points for bringing companies to Paulding is the 700 acres of land on the airport open for development. It's also located outside Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International's (ATL) Class B airspace, to the northwest of the city.
"Probably two-thirds of Atlanta's air traffic comes in from the northwest," said Swafford. "From an airspace standpoint, it's a lot easier to get in and out of our airport."
