NBAA Scholarship Overview

Since being founded more than 30 years ago, NBAA's scholarship program, generously supported through Member donors, has grown significantly. Today, nearly $100,000 is given annually in cash awards as tuition reimbursement for enrolled students, and that number is nearly matched in monetary and training awards for working professionals.

“Individuals who have received scholarships have gone on to even more successful careers in business aviation,” said NBAA Director, Operations Jay Evans, who coordinates the scholarship programs. “It’s been very rewarding to see where these professionals have started and where they are today. Helping one another in this industry is what a career in business aviation is all about.”

Scholarships for Students

The Association currently offers the following scholarships to highly qualified students studying aviation-related curricula at institutions of higher learning.

NBAA and Conklin & de Decker established the Alan H. Conklin Business Aviation Management Scholarship to benefit undergraduates pursuing careers in business aviation management at NBAA- and University Aviation Association (UAA)-affiliated institutions. The scholarship was created to honor the memory of Al Conklin, U.S. Air Force veteran, co-founder of Conklin & de Decker and business aviation leader for more than 60 years.

The Lawrence Ginocchio Aviation Scholarship was created in 2001 by NBAA and the family and friends of the late Lawrence Ginocchio to honor his outstanding personal contribution to the business aviation community. The scholarship benefits undergraduate students officially enrolled at NBAA/ UAA-member institutions.

Named for Janice Barden, an active participant in the business aviation community for decades, the UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship benefits undergraduates studying aviation-related curricula at NBAA/UAA-member institutions.

The NORDAM Dee Howard/Etienne Fage Scholarship was created by The NORDAM Group to recognize the lifetime achievements of two aerospace engineering pioneers, Dee Howard and Etienne Fage. This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate officially enrolled full-time as an aerospace engineering or aeronautical systems maintenance engineering major at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, an NBAA/UAA-member institution.

NBAA named the William M. Fanning Maintenance Scholarship for a retired NBAA staff member who was active in maintenance issues during his nearly 20-year tenure at the Association. This scholarship annually benefits two recipients: a student who currently is enrolled in an accredited airframe and powerplant (A&P) program at an approved FAR Part 147 school, and a second individual who is currently not enrolled but has been accepted for enrollment in an A&P program.

Last but not least, one of NBAA's oldest scholarship programs is made possible by the U.S. Aircraft Insurance Group (USAIG). The USAIG PDP Scholarship annually benefits applicants enrolled full-time in an NBAA/UAA-affiliated university offering NBAA Professional Development Program (PDP) courses.

Scholarships for Working Professionals

In addition to offering scholarships for students, NBAA also offers several monetary and training scholarships to promote professionalism and career advancement for aviation professionals such as flight department managers, pilots, maintenance technicians, schedulers, dispatchers, flight attendants and flight technicians. These scholarships are administered by NBAA standing committees and would not be possible without the generous financial support of NBAA Member donors.

NBAA’s Corporate Aviation Management Committee and the family of the late Donald A. Baldwin Sr. established the Donald A. Baldwin Sr. Business Aviation Management Scholarship to benefit individuals seeking to become NBAA Certified Aviation Managers (CAMs). Funds for this scholarship cover the cost of several CAM Program fees and enable recipients to attend the NBAA Leadership Conference.

NBAA’s Corporate Aviation Management Committee also administers the Corporate Aviation Management Scholarship to provide qualified candidates with funds to attend the NBAA Leadership Conference.

The NBAA International Operators Committee offers the International Operators Scholarship to benefit business aviation professionals engaged in international operations. This scholarship provides funds to be applied toward a professional or educational training program of the recipient’s choice.

The Flight Attendants/Flight Technicians Scholarship provides monetary and training awards for aspiring and current flight attendants and flight technicians. This scholarship is administered by the Flight Attendants Committee, which promotes education and training as a means for business aviation flight attendants and flight technicians to enhance their professional careers.

Current and aspiring maintenance technicians are eligible for Maintenance TRACS (the Maintenance Technical Reward and Career Scholarship), enabling candidates the opportunity to receive initial technician training courses for several aircraft models. The scholarship, offered by the NBAA Maintenance Committee, also covers courses for aircraft, engines, avionics and professional development.

NBAA's Schedulers & Dispatchers (S&D) Committee is dedicated to promoting education and training as a means for current and aspiring schedulers and dispatchers to increase their professionalism. The committee administers the Schedulers & Dispatchers Scholarship to provide monetary awards of up to $10,000 for qualified applicants responsible for scheduling and dispatching business aircraft, and the Schedulers & Dispatchers Training Scholarship to provide professional training awards for such individuals.
