For Dean Atchison, NBAA2007 represents a launch – literally. “I’m announcing the new ownership at NBAA,” he said, grinning as he and his crew worked on the company’s display (Booth #8953B) of one of the dedicated life support units it manufactures from a facility in Wheaton, MN, near the North Dakota border. “I’m the new owner. I bought the company in June after being a commercial banker for over 20 years,” he said. The company had been around since the late 1980s, and the concept was “too exciting to pass up,” Atchison said, referring to the engineering and manufacture of air ambulance equipment that can instantly transform any aircraft into an air ambulance through the use of modular life support equipment. His brother, Scott, an anesthesiologist, is the medical director. Sixteen employees round out the company. “Yes, it’s a small business, but we’re going to change that,” Atchison said.
