Western Skyways, Inc.

“We still build piston engines,” said Western Skyways President Al Head. “Lots of people in business aviation have a small piston in the hangar . . . they sure are surprised to see us here, but they’re happy,” he said, glancing at the shiny rebuilt piston engine on display at Booth 1213. Head says the company he co-owns with David Leis, who serves as the head of sales and marketing, also rebuilds, overhauls and services all models of Pratt & Whitney’s PT6 turbine engine, along with about 50 pistons a month from their facility in Montrose, CO. They have about 85 employees and have been in business about 13 years as aircraft engine specialists with a focus on the all-important details. After a few years’ lapse, Western Skyways returned to exhibit at NBAA’s Annual Meeting & Convention three years ago. “We’re pleased with the results,” said Head. “I’ve got 20 to 30 quotes that people want on their piston engines, and a lot of requests for PT6s. It’s been very good this year,” he said.
