Who Should Attend?

The NBAA 9th Annual Flight Attendants Conference can help you improve your job performance if you:

  • Are a corporate flight technician, flight attendant or third cabin crew member
  • Want to become one
  • Want to manage corporate flight attendants

This event covers issues such as cabin safety and security, corporate aircraft passenger service, catering tips and ideas on how to manage your career. Attendees also learn the safety and regulatory requirements that can maximize cabin safety for passengers and crew. Flight attendants, flight technicians and other flight department professionals will take away options, procedures and techniques they can immediately put to use in their operations. In addition, the Conference provides an ideal opportunity for Attendees to network with those facing similar issues in today's challenging business aviation environment.

This meeting is designed to bring Buddies – those who have attended past Conferences – together with first-time Conference Attendees to help the newcomers get the most out of the Conference. This orientation session is a great opportunity for those new to our community to meet and network with experienced professionals. Anyone interested in being a "Buddy" to a first-time Attendee should check the "buddy box" on the attached registration form.

Introductions & Keynote Speakers

NBAA Flight Attendants Committee Chairwoman, Virginia Lippincott of Pfizer Aviation, will report on Committee efforts to improve cabin safety in business aviation and increase opportunities for professional development of the corporate flight attendant.

Ron Mumm, BellSouth Communications director, flight operations, is the guest keynote speaker for this session. Mumm has performed before more than 20 million people as he commanded the famous U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds demonstration team. His distinguished aviation background also includes experience as an F-15 and F-16 fighter pilot, operational test pilot, instructor pilot and Thunderbird pilot. Mumm will share his perspective on how flight attendants and all crewmembers can maximize their potential in business aviation careers.

Security Issues

An NBAA representative will explain recent changes involving security programs required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the FAA, which can affect ramp access and service as well as aircrew status when arriving and departing from U.S. airports. This session also will address the NBAA-sponsored TSA Access Certificate (TSAAC) proof-of-concept program, an element of NBAA’s new Secure Access proposal.

Stress & the Health of Corporate Aircrews

Dr. Bobbie Sullivan will present results from her AirCrew Stress Study and summarize results for crews working in corporate aviation. Discussion will focus on similarities and differences between results for flight attendants working in corporate aviation and those working in the commercial sector. She plans to highlight situational factors specific to corporate flight attendants.

Aircraft Cabin Food Transportation & Preparation

Aircraft food service involves a set of multi-dimensional tasks beginning with menu development and ending with plate presentation. A flight attendant’s job description includes food purchasing, packing, preparation and assembly, all of which involve food safety issues. Karen Hanson of Foodsearch Plus, Inc. will address these topics along with food trends, tips on ordering from international caterers and the business of personal service and etiquette.

Insurance & Accounting Best Practices for the Contract Flight Attendant

What does the contract flight attendant need to consider when investigating insurance and financial planning? What does the company hiring the contract flight attendant need to consider when it comes to insurance and financial considerations? If these are questions you would like to know, Charlie Tooley, Palmer & Cay Aviation & Marine Practice Insurance, and Greg Wilson, certified public accountant, can help explain your best options. This presentation will cover issues related to workman’s compensation, liability issues, financial accounting and other considerations that can help contract flight attendants manage their career options.

Managing Medical Issues

Dr. Brent Blue, a physician and FAA-designated senior aviation medical examiner, will present a way to respond to medical emergencies and manage your own personal medical health as a crewmember. He will review scenarios and descriptions that arm Attendees with tools to assist their passengers in several medical situations. He also will discuss proper ways to manage your health as a crewmember.

Responding to Aircraft Cabin Problems

This informative panel discussion will assist flight attendants or flight technicians in dealing with problems encountered in the aircraft cabin. It also will help them better inform maintenance on problems that arise inflight. The panel will consist of flight techs and flight attendants who will advise on how to form better relationships within the flight department regarding aircraft cabin issues.

Managing Internal Customer Relationships

In our continuous quest for improving our services, we are confronted with ever more challenging external customers. Passengers/customers are diverse and can be demanding. In order to meet this challenge head on, teamwork has become pivotal. The flight department must be able to work as a well functioning team. In this interactive session, Bob Hobbi of ServiceElements will review and discuss various aspects of modern-day internal customer relations with crews and other team members.

Traveling Internationally? Curious about cultural differences around the world? As business aircraft travel longer distances, the need for learning inflight etiquette from east to west is imperative today. View serving demonstrations addressing various cultures around the world, proper body language, cultural expectations, cultural expressions and handling awkward situations, as well as the do’s and don’ts you need to know. Presented by GoGo Jets.

Roundtable #6
This interactive session addresses regional tastes and how they may affect your catering choices. Using a simple basic ingredient (the canvas), local ingredients (the mediums) and ethnic/local styles of cooking (the creativity), Attendees will examine evolving regional cuisines of the United States. Menu samplings and recipe cards will be provided. Presented by Air Chef.

Roundtable #7
This session will take you to a new level of plate presentation and garnishing. You will learn unique ways of presenting the foods you order in a creative fashion. The tips and techniques you will learn here will "kick it up a notch." Presented by Air Gourmet.

Roundtable #8
The Diet Revolution is on. This session features new menu creations for all types of meals being served at all times of the day. Enjoy a visual feast of dishes that adhere to the top three diets of today: Atkins, South Beach and the Zone. Take away menus and recipes you can enjoy at 30,000 feet. Presented by Air Culinaire.

U.S.Attendees who call United's toll-free number (1-800-521-4041) to book reservations and refer to Meeting ID Number 517SG will receive a 5 percent discount offthe lowest applicable discount fare, including first class,or a 10 percent discount offmid-week coach fares, purchased 7 days in advance. An additional 5 percent discount will apply when tickets are purchased at least 30 days in advance oftravel date. Or you may choose area pricing, set airfare prices based upon geographical locations. Discounts apply on all United, United Express, and UA code share flights operated by US Airways,US Airways Express and Air Canada.   • A non-Member who pays the $425 Conference registration fee may elect to become an NBAA Member for a year and receive one free pass to the NBAA 57th Annual Meeting & Convention, October 12 to 14, 2004, in Las Vegas, NV.
  • Fees include all materials, breakfasts, lunches and breaks.
  • Confirmation will be sent via e-mail to acknowledge receipt of your registration, please allow 7-10 days for confirmation.
 

Any person who attends an NBAA convention, conference, seminar or other program grants permission to NBAA, its employees and agents (collectively "NBAA") to record his or her visual/audio images, including, but not limited to, photographs, digital images, voices, sound or video recordings, audio clips, or accompanying written descriptions, and, without notifying such person, to use his or her name and such images for any purpose of NBAA, including advertisements for NBAA and its programs.

Substitutions/Cancellations

A full refund less 10 percent processing fee will be made for cancellations received in writing prior to Friday, June 11, 2004. NBAA understands the last minute nature of corporate aviation and has allowed as much flexibility as possible. However, there will be NO REFUNDS AFTER Friday, June 11, 2004. All requests must be received in writing or by fax to (202) 478-6885. Postmark or fax transmission date will determine date of cancellation. If you are unable to attend and wish to send another representative from your company, simply fax the name of your replacement.

Conference Attire

The dress code for all events is business casual (slacks, skirts, blouses, sweaters and blazers for women, and slacks, polo shirts, button-down shirts, blazers or sweaters for men). Since meeting rooms have a tendency to be cool, please dress appropriately.
