A Myth-Busters Analysis of Business Aircraft “Rules of Thumb”
Speaker: Walter Kraujalis, AeronomX
Over the years, various “rules of thumb” regarding aircraft ownership have developed. There are rules of thumb as to the number of hours determining whether you should charter, buy a fractional share, or own a whole aircraft outright. Rules of thumb as to when an owner should sell an aircraft after so many years. Are there rules true when confronted with reality? This presentation will take a “Myth-Busters” approach to prove or disprove these rules of thumb. |

Five Common Legal/Ethical Dilemmas for the Flight Department and How to Deal with Them
Speaker: Charles Morgenstein, Mmo Legal Services, LLC
This presentation will highlight five common legal/ethical dilemmas faced regularly by flight departments and business aviation pilots.
- Flying the owner’s “friends: in a Part 91 operation when you suspect, but cannot confirm, the owner is receiving compensation for the flight;
- Knowing the owner is contemplating purchasing a new aircraft, accepting a “commission” from a broker or an inspection facility;
- One or more of the aircraft is placed on “managed charter”. From whom does the pilot take instructions?;
- Individual claiming to be with the FAA demands that pilot hand over original certificates or logbooks;
5) Customs agents putting unusual demands on VIP aircraft during clearance of passengers and aircraft (e.g., wants photo and signature of celebrity passenger).
Learn how to handle legal, practical, ethical and business considerations, when to say “No”, and how to make the boss understand that “No” is the answer that protects the boss’s interests, and not just those of his “stubborn” pilot. |

Security is a Mindset
Speaker: Jodie Brown, Summit Solutions, LLC
As businesses under siege, we must increase security measures and employee awareness. We must show due diligence and thoughtful prevention, and eliminate gross negligence. We must teach all our people how to be “ready alert.” With security measures, our people come first. They are the guardians of our security. Whether they maintain the runway, operate ground transportation, fuel and fix aircraft, work the desk or fly the planes, they are our first defensive line. They are the eyes and ears of our secure operation.
Whether we operate part 91, 125, or 135, our responsibility to our flying customers and the public is to make sure our employees operate under a new kind of consciousness. The new consciousness is one of awareness and alertness. This mentality will not happen overnight. We will raise the consciousness level through leadership, example, and formal training.
Learn some tips from the experts (treasury department, LANL, NSA) on how to prepare your people to be Ready, Alert, and Responsive. |
