Savannah, GA, January 30, 2008 – If you are serious about planning your career in business aviation, NBAA’s Standards of Excellence in Business Aviation (SEBA) is the way to chart a course to grow your skills, enhance your job satisfaction and help your company’s human resources department in identifying your contributions within the company structure, thereby distinguishing you from others who do not have your unique skill set.

SEBA is a step-by-step career path checklist that enables you to define and refine your interests as they relate to your specific goals and to those of your department. SEBA can help you answer that proverbial question, “Where do I want to be in five years?”

SEBA, which promotes continuing education of business aviation professionals, applies to airplane and helicopter pilots, maintenance technicians, flight attendants and ground support specialists, as well as to schedulers and dispatchers. For each job type, various training levels are defined based upon the operational requirements and career progression milestones of each respective discipline. Individual training requirements are defined in each level to determine the specific training programs required to achieve a knowledge base that equals or exceeds the defined standard.

By clearly defining industry training standards, promoting the use of standardized training practices, communicating industry best practices and supporting career development programs of business aviation professionals, SEBA can provide the guidance and recommendations for successful professional education and development.

For schedulers and dispatchers, there are four SEBA levels:

• SEBA 1 (Scheduler I) is achieved when a scheduler with one year or more of job experience attends two Schedulers Professional Development Program (SPDP) Courses or two S&D Conferences.
• SEBA 2 (Scheduler II/Dispatcher) requires individuals to have achieved SEBA 1, accumulated two to five years experience in scheduling/dispatching or earned an FAA dispatch license, and taken a combination of three SPDP Courses or attended three S&D Conferences.
• SEBA 3 (Lead Scheduler/Lead Dispatcher) is reached when a scheduler/dispatcher reaches SEBA 2 and accrues five years of experience plus two of the following: (1) completed a recognized scheduler training program offered by an NBAA affiliate; (2) earned an FAA dispatch license; (3) accumulated five additional years of industry experience (4) attended a combination of five SPDP Courses/S&D Conferences; or (5) shown sufficient industry involvement in the eyes of the S&D Committee.
• SEBA 4 (Senior/Manager Scheduler/Dispatcher) requires individuals to complete SEBA 3 and have 10 years experience scheduling with two years of management experience and industry involvement as approved by the S&D Committee. SEBA 4 people also need to have an associate (or higher) college degree or must have completed the “Managing the Corporate Aviation Function” course at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.
