NBAA Hopeful That General Aviation Will Soon Fly Into Reagan Washington National Airport

Contact: Cassandra Bosco

Washington, DC, May 8, 2002 - The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), along with other aviation associations representing the general aviation community as well as the leadership of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and Signature Flight Support, met with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials today to discuss a six-point plan to be completed by the end of May for returning qualified general aviation operations back into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

The DOT said they are committed to implementing this plan as soon as possible following the publication of the specific security access plan based upon the following six points:

1. Vetting and certification of flight deck crewmembers.
2. Advance clearance of passenger manifests by TSA.
3. Screening of passengers and accessible property.
4. Securing and physical inspection of aircraft.
5. Compliance with DCA Air Traffic Control special flight procedures.
6. Compliance inspections and penalties.

"NBAA is confident that we will be able to work with DOT, TSA and others to get general aviation flying back into Reagan Washington National Airport," said NBAA President Jack Olcott.

NBAA represents the aviation interests of more than 7,100 companies which own or operate general aviation aircraft as an aid to the conduct of their business, or are involved with business aviation. NBAA Member Companies earn annual revenues approaching $5 trillion — a number that is about half the gross domestic product — and employ more than 19 million people worldwide. The NBAA Annual Meeting & Convention is the world's largest display of civil aviation products and services.
