Airports in Focus
Because airports play a vital economic role in national and international commerce, their
operations are regulated by local, state and federal authorities. With more than 4,000 publicly-owned
and 5,000 public-use airports in the United States, the rules and regulations by which airports
operate is varied and complicated.
The NBAA airport reports on this page can provide a framework for understanding the political pressures facing airports today and help NBAA Members become more involved in solving airport access problems. NBAA regularly profiles general aviation airports on this site. The most recent airport reports are listed in the yellow box to the right.
Business aircraft can use 10 times the number of airports served by the airlines. This access
is essential for business aircraft operators to provide on-demand air transportation service
for their companies. Fair and reasonable access must be fostered and preserved if business
aviation is to continue to thrive. To report an airport access issue, contact NBAA’s Jeff Gilley at jgilley@nbaa.org.
