ERAM Flight Plan Transition to ICAO Format

ERAM Will Not Support Bulk Flight Plans

March 17, 2008

The FAA has started the process of replacing the legacy host computer processing systems at 20 air route traffic control centers (ARTCC) with the en route automation modernization (ERAM) program. ERAM will not have the flight plan storage capacity of the old host system and, as a result, the new system no longer will hold bulk flight plans or canned flight plans. The FAA is soliciting feedback regarding whether or not this creates an issue for customers. The agency will be sending a letter with more details within the next 30 days to flight departments currently using the service. For further information, operators may contact NBAA's John Kosak at jkosak@nbaa.org.

FAA to Host Telcons on En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) Transition
The Federal Aviation Admistration (FAA) will host a series of bi-weekly telcons as part of their efforts to educate the aviation community on the upcoming changes in flight plan processing associated with the En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) program.  ERAM is the largest National Airspace System (NAS) equipment replacement program in FAA history and involves the replacement of 20 Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) host computer-processing systems. These telcons will take place every Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. EDT beginning October 31 and continuing through December 12, and will discuss the upcoming changes in flight plan filing and processing as the FAA transitions from a NAS flight plan format to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) flight plan format on or about June 5, 2008.  For more information, contact NBAA’s John Kosak at JKosak@nbaa.org, or view the FAA ERAM Presentation.
