Las Vegas McCarran to Have Runway Closure; Plan Accordingly
September 8, 2008

Runway 25L/07R at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS) is scheduled to be closed from November 1, 2008 until May 1, 2009 due to construction. The runway closure is expected to have a major impact on arrival and departure rates, and delays in and out of the airport are likely during the construction. Various traffic management initiatives including miles in trail, ground stops and ground delay programs are anticipated. Nearby alternate airports are Henderson Executive (HND) and North Las Vegas (VGT). Both have modern facilities and reliable ground transportation options, and it is likely that delays can be reduced significantly by utilizing one of these alternate airports. Additional details can be found at: http://www.nbaa.org/airspace/las

Changes to Instrument Arrival Procedures to be Implemented at KLAX
August 22, 2008
On September 25, 2008, four revised ILS approaches as well as two revised and one new Standard Terminal Arrival Routes (STARs) will become effective at Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX). The enhancements will simplify the selection of approach procedures by eliminating the need for runway transitions on Flight Management System (FMS) equipped aircraft. Assuming normal weather patterns, these new procedures will be in use for all aircraft arriving at KLAX on or after 1300 UTC (0600 PDT local time) on September 25, 2008. More.

Las Vegas ATC Recommends Best Practices to Minimize Delays and Congestion
June 20, 2005
The FAA and the FBOs at Las Vegas Mc Carran International Airport (LAS) advise operators to minimize delays and congestion by making advanced parking reservations. Recently, pilots landing at LAS have been advised that no parking is available at the general aviation ramp and have then been denied landing. This has become a major issue, caused by a continuing heavy increase in general aviation traffic throughout the week, and has led to increased and lengthy delays. To assist this issue, operators are highly encouraged to make advance parking reservations for Signature Aviation and Las Vegas Executive Air Terminal. The FBOs' main switchboards are staffed 24/7 to accept reservation requests. For more information, contact the NBAA GA Desk Staff at gadesk@nbaa.org.

LTA 04-03: Las Vegas Tower/TRACON, McCarran International Airport, Sunday Departure Delays (7KB, PDF)
Effective October 1, 2004 - No expiration date
During peak demand periods on Sunday aircraft may experience departure delays of 60 minutes or more at McCarran International Airport. This LTA recommends that to avoid lengthy departure delays operators schedule departures from McCarran before 0900L and from 1730 to 2200L when possible.
